WILD CARD PLAYERS: Studies on Lying, Dogmatic, and Creative Persons, by Paul R. Henrickson, Department of Art, University of Northern Iowa, 1970) suggest that 4% of the untrained, uneducated and unsophisticated judging population are as perceptive as experts in a field. If consensus could establish truth and point out the beautiful there would be no reason for the loftier concerns of rarer persons. The perceptive individual is capable of responding, intuitively perhaps, but still effectively, and with insight, on a level of excellence comparable to the specialist. Therefore, it is not surprising the perceptive person loses interest in inept and misguided exercises that reduce intelligent behavior while encouraging mindless intellection and conformist thought processes. Such people resist group pressure to conform with consensus reality. This segment of the population is more creative than the majority and includes a small group who have not been professionally trained yet clearly demonstrate the ability to make professional level judgments that are more perceptive. NEW SITE: What happens when stressed-out vets return from the war theatre and try to resume their lives with business-as-usual? Many, if not most, find that to be impossible, because they are not the same as they were prior to deployment. In fact, many contend with sleepless nights, inability to focus, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

Veteran's PTSD is a multidimensional issue involving disabilities, traumatic brain injury, psychophysical regulation, stress-management, depression, grief, dissociation, and perhaps ADHD, T-type behavior, chronic pain management, alcohol and drug use, and compulsive disorders. Soldiers in the 101st Airborne claim most use alchol and drugs in excess, including Valium and marijuana. That is the short list, as each unique individual will have particular adjustment issues depending on their life and combat histories. Some also have service-related chronic health issues from vaccines, Gulf War Syndrome, DU, etc.

In ancient Roman architecture, a "cryptoporticus" was a labyrinthine underground passage connecting all aspects of cultural life. Only partially at groundlevel, it supports a vast concealed architecture that communicates in secret among its numerous different centers. It is a matrix of nexus points. "Mission creep" is the expansion of a project or mission beyond its original goals, often after initial successes. It describes an individual, group or system attempting to do more than is allowed by the the current mandate, perhaps at an escalating rate. Mission creeps yield to the temptation to go beyond  the scope of best practice compromising central goals. A term of disapproval, mission creep is usually considered undesirable due to the dangerous path of each success breeding more ambitious attempts, only stopping when a final, often catastrophic, failure occurs. Temporary advances are followed by blowback. The term was originally applied exclusively to military operations, but is applicable to intelligence and espionage, politics, finance, media, social engineering, draconian legislation, as well as the toxic growth of academia, bureaucracies and corporations. It also relates to the militarization of civilian life, including the merger of intelligence and police, defense and domestic law enforcement. They have penetrated one another. Misdirected leaders convince themselves they are more productive in their assignments if they deploy unfettered power to implement their agendas. A prime example is the covert operation  COINTEL Factor targeting US citizens. Another is the fusion of federal, state and local intelligence originally against terrorism. Fusion centers increasingly are focused on super-surveillance collecting and analyzing criminal and all-hazards. Mission creep is ubiquitos wherever oversight is lacking. Losing sight of objectives, it kicks open the door to invasion of privacy and infringements on our civil rights, constitutional and human rights. Mission creep hit home while the American public was paying attention to other things. This misdirection and distraction is psyops, an information and mind control war for your willing compliance and/or controlled rebellion. Don't fall for it; fight back with DIY mind control. Reverse engineer your psychophysical control mechanisms. The Re-Evolution will be internalized. We have intuitive access to the collective pool and to our cultural destiny. We discover our originality. Art expands our consciousness. It can be prophetic. Imagination flows through us, welling up from our core as a flow state. In an artfully and heartfully lived life, we can apply a similar strategy to our spirituality. Our lives become multidimensional artful expressions without frames, embodied in living Light. Process-oriented spirituality is an art that is eclectic and intensely personal.

THE TRANSMODERN ALCHEMIST

Metaphors and models of science are increasingly relevant in the artworld and transmodern mysticism. Art and science begin as imaginative speculation anticipating a unity or gestalt. The same holds true for the science-art of alchemy. Metaphors reflect universal or holistic references and processes, connecting concepts across disciplines. There is a dimension of reality that transcends mind and matter -- the crystalline chaotic sea of virtual photon flux.

The Transmodern Alchemist unpacks the more than metaphorical resonance of alchemy and chaos theory as open, self-organizing processes. In philosophy, the trancendent principle "emanation" is primordial. All derived or secondary things proceed or flow from the primal Source. All things, actually or only apparently material, flow from the primal principle. Alchemy calls Chaos the prima and ultima materia. In this chaosophical philosophy, all systems emerge from and eventually dissolve back into chaos.

Alchemy is an irreducible fusion of mysticism, science and art that also happens to be therapeutic or growth-promoting and tantalizingly hints at illumination. The process begins with doubts and lack of conviction but time spent on self-knowledge, experimentation and spiritual exercises is amply rewarded. Alchemy evolves like any science or artform through revolutionary paradigm shifts that revision its philosophy of practice.

Chaos theory is an organic model of creation through fractal emergence. Chaos prevails from the infinitely small to cosmic levels. Dynamic processes are deterministic though unpredictable. All experience is subjective. Intuition is a nonlinear informational source that can create quantum leaps in consciousness. Using imagination, we can ‘see through’ to a deeper level of reality. Science confirms what we find there. Our art -- the Great Work -- is the means we use to amplify the process.

CHAOS THEORY IN 21st CENTURY ALCHEMY

Alchemy is an artform. In the 20th Century, Carl Jung described alchemy in terms of depth psychology and shed new light on esoteric science. TRANSMODERN ALCHEMY can be viewed as a dynamic process in terms of Chaos Theory and its related sciences. Dynamics is a revolutionary universal tool which helps us grasp the processes of development in ourselves, in nature, in our world and the cosmos. Dynamics is a synthesis of recent scientific advances and theories: system dynamics, living systems, general systems, chaos, edge-of-chaos, complexity, emergence, complex adaptive systems, quantum gravity, quantum cosmology, attractors, homeodynamics, and self-organization. The Stone is a psychic lodestone or vortex. It 'magnetically' orders the contents of our consciousness around it through reflexive feedback loops in chaotic yet meaningful fashion. Instinctual attraction toward processes that dissolve the ego and liquify consciousness leads to transpersonal experience via symbolic death/rebirth. We experience deep states of emotional turbulence in initiation ordeals and in the merger of subject (soror mystica) and object (frater). We have no control over the collective psyche, the dynamic totality of all conscious and unconscious psychic processes, a self-organizing process with its own structure and flow.  Global sociopolitical life mirrors this condition (including deeply ingrained conflict, the will to live and depression). MYTHICAL LIVING

COVERT MYTHICAL THEMES: Myth reveals the character of reality yet it is not of this realm. Myth must be uncovered. It is a primal active force in the world and the missing dimension in the dynamic interplay of politics. Myth is a common unifying principle. Myth permeates our understanding of our past, present and potential.

Myth is a conceptual schemata embodying core metaphysical concepts and moral wisdom. Myths do cultural work. All societies live by myths. In myth-building any words or symbols can be modified from their original meanings to suit their new roles in a matrix of varied forms. Claude Levi-Strauss observed, nothing in today's society is more mythical than political ideology.

Just as myth has always had a strong social and political element, so political movements and theories have mythical dimensions. American politics has a mythic foundation and a mass culture that supports it. We also find it in narrative formulas in fiction. Popular culture also functions as a political practice in "Prime Time Politics." Mythical political talk masquerades as rational thought.

SYMBOLIC SYSTEM: Themes can be traced back to national myths and other cultural resources buried deeply in America's origins and early history -- from Francis Bacon's Utopian dreams of New Atlantis, to Rosicrucian and Masonic Enlightenment, to revolutionary notions about Freedom. Among the mythical American core values, fundamental issues, such as liberty, responsibility and democracy have their mythical representations.

But our collective shadow shows in our egregious treatment of Native Americans and Blacks. Symbols can be fatal. Political history is largely an account of mass violence and of the expenditure of vast resources to cope with mythical fears and hopes. We still project our fears onto the unseen faces of domestic and international terrorists, in the name of the myth of the clash of cultures. All other nations have mythical histories, too.

The material world has a mythic nature with its dangers and ambiguous promise. Myth creates the vision of a future perfect world. We are largely unconscious of mythic operation and affects. Political myth has a narcotic quality that binds society together. It is the lens through which we interpret our individual selves. But myth also has cognitive and rational factors.

 

Myth forces a certain "truth." We cannot escape myth. It is the crucial way for us to move from our present state to a very different future. Myth can be revolutionary or reactionary. Myth has been called a "cultural troubleshooter," a solution to cultural contradiction.

Political veils include political symbols, rhetoric, rituals, mythologies, and traditions. They veil the rough edges offering idealized images of the system. But veils always imply some degree of concealment of truth.

The language of politics is ineffective without mythic elements that are unverifiable, irrational yet motivational. Therefore, myth should be embraced with reserve. Myth has a virtual power in producing events, before and after the fact.

Mythic events burst through the status quo. We build our historical "truths" as healing or divisive fictions from a mythologized perception. It is neither false consciousness nor an unqualified positive force. Myth can serve subversion or the ruling elite. Oppression and subversion is the dialectical myth. The grand dialectic is between myth and history. History generates myth and myth generates history.

Political myth can be used as persuasive ideological discourse. It is a continuous process of unfolding narrative significance and collective social meaning. They help us orient and know how to act and feel about our world, whether we buy into them or react against them. From the banal to the extraordinary, they help us name the unknown and chart our direction.

Political myths differ from sacral myths in the forms they are presented in and the functions they serve. But these stories have the status of sacred in one or more social groups. They embody operative intentionalities, a narrative for ways of being in the world. The myths we embrace define our place in society.

But the modern political psyche is in the midst of a rite of passage where economics and imperialism take centerstage. Globalization is the foremost issue of the 21st century. Is the "clash of civilizations" myth just another propagandized view that has become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

The function of myth is essentially hegemonic but no individual or political group can occupy the seat of power that unites all society. Hegemony isn't a description of the status quo but a description of the means of political change and opposition to domination.

 

MYTH OF MEANING: Political myth is meant to establish a system of values that penetrate into individual and family life, into culture, education and beyond to the politics of socialization. Both science and religion are used to "validate" political myths. Most are riddled with inconsistencies, paradox and hypocrisy. We always spin political myths about the opposition, about youth, about terrorists, about covert action, about money, about drugs, about foreign policy, about ourselves.

The new buzzword is "Change." The debate centers around corporate bogeymen, special interest lobbyists, rising energy costs and the myth of the "divided nation." Will you take the red (state) pill or the blue pill? Instead of political myths, we need political education and enlightenment to build a civil society.

Myth is the invisible ground of competing ideologies. Each political movement has its mythic base, vision and mission. And it has its characteristic rhetoric, the message it constantly drives home.
